Oyama City is located in the south end of Tochigi Prefecture, on the eastern bank of the Omoi River.
With excellent access-just about 40 minutes from central Tokyo by the Tohoku Shinkansen-Oyama has flourished as the prefecture's second largest city.
Historically, it prospered as the castle town of the Oyama clan, and is notable as the site of the "Oyama Conference" held just before the Battle of Sekigahara.
Nearby Shiroyama Park is famous for its cherry blossoms, and Oyama is also known as the home of Yūki-tsumugi silk.
